The "Annual RCW Dinner Dance" is held, by
kind permission of the Mess Management, in the Senior Rates
and Warrant Officer's Mess at HMS Collingwood. This
"black-tie" event in the prestigious Naval venue is the
social highlight of our Rotary year. No-one wants to miss
it, so book early for tickets! |

We are involved with the famous national
"shoebox appeal" whereby large numbers of Christmas gifts
(packed in well wrapped shoeboxes) are sent by truck to
children in war-torn or devastated countries. The boxes are
gifts from all over the country, collected by many
organisations. Each year,
Rotary District 1110 (our "region" or "district" -
Hampshire, CI, parts of Dorset and Sussex) aims to send
about 24,000 boxes abroad. We are pleased to say that we
manage to collect over 350 of those boxes annually.

From time to time we make a
contribution of over US$1,000 to the
Rotary Foundation fund. This is
donated by the club in the form of a "Paul Harris Fellowship",
which is awarded people
who have provided an outstanding contribution to Rotary, our club, the local
community, or all of the above.

We have a "race night" every year or so. This
event varies in type and style from black-tie to family fun.
In 2006 we held a family race night at the Whiteley
Community Centre on June 17th, raising about £1,000.

Of course, there's the traditional Christmas
"tin rattling", as well. December sees us out in various
places that shoppers may congregate, for instance in the
Whitely Village (Outlet Mall), the Whiteley "Tesco" , the
Segensworth "Makro" and the Park Gate "Pets at Home". The
shoppers are entertained, at times, by a dancing Santa and
some rather chilly "Santa's Helpers". Thanks to the
management of all these venues for their kind permission to
collect there. Thanks to all those who "rattled tins" and
most of all thanks to the generous shoppers at Whiteley. We
raise many hundreds of pounds for deserving local charities!

And that's not all. Other events range from
simple raffles to elaborate dinner parties, musical events,
"Come Dancing" evenings, and promises auctions
