Meetings

About our meetings

The Rotary Club of Whiteley meets on Tuesday evenings,
7pm for 7:30pm, at

The Whiteley Community Centre,
Gull Coppice, Whiteley, PO15 7LA
.

bullet Our meeting format and content varies during the month. The start time, however, remains at 7:30pm (although members will arrive from about 7:15pm) and we usually finish between 9:00pm and 9:30pm

bullet We enjoy a light meal, good company, guest speakers, fellowship and planning our next project or event. Meetings usually last about an hour and a half to two hours, depending on how much we have to talk about, or how many questions we can come up with for our guest speakers!  Of course, there is always plenty of time afterwards to "prop up the bar" if you feel so inclined.
bullet On the first Tuesday of the month we usually have a guest speaker. Subjects can be simply entertaining or could be presentations from charitable or local community organisations (usually also entertaining!).  However the emphasis of the meeting is informal and only urgent or time critical Rotary business is discussed at the end of the meeting.

bullet The second Tuesday is a "planning" meeting. Following our meal, we hold "breakout" meetings for the various project groups. We use this time to plan our fundraising and community activities.
bullet The third Tuesday is another "speaker evening", this time with the emphasis on "Rotary" or "Community" topics. We will also deal with any Rotary business if it cannot wait until the next business meeting.

bullet On the fourth Tuesday of the month, we have our "business meeting". This is when we run through the "Internal business" of the club, discussing items from the club council and matters from District, RIBI and RI as appropriate. We talk about our ongoing projects and can make decisions about new projects. Normally there would not be a guest speaker at these meetings.
bullet When there is a fifth Tuesday in a month, you'll need to check this site to look for our meeting information, or contact us if there is no listing for that month. Rotarians planning to visit can contact the secretary directly, using the information in the RI, RIBI or district directories.

bullet As you can see, the first and third weeks are a good choice for visitors and guests, as it's an opportunity to meet our members and learn about us and what we do as a Rotary club during an informal and relaxed evening.
bullet Comments on attendance requirements.
bullet Although a Rotary club must meet every week, individual Rotarians are not required to attend every meeting. The club meets weekly in order to progress our projects and provide the opportunity for those who want to attend or visit, to do so.

bullet According to the RI "rules", there are attendance requirements, based on a minimum attendance by members at 60% of meetings. However, we would much rather have the benefit of a member who is contributing and who is a keen Rotarian, but can not attend a full 60%  than we would someone who can always attend but makes no contribution to our efforts. Oh, and by the way, if you're travelling on business or holiday, Rotarians can visit the local Rotary Club wherever they go. It's a great way to meet people all over the world (and it counts towards your attendance)!

If you are local to the Whiteley or Fareham area, and you think you may enjoy Rotary and that Rotary could benefit from your membership, please get in touch with us.
